This app is the only one of its kind. It really helps me study on the go and I don't know how I'd manage to learn characters efficiently without it. However, after my trial, I wanted to purchase a year long plan and wasn't able to without going to the desktop version. I sent an email to and no one ever got back to me. I still love and would 100 percent recommend this app to anyone trying to learn Chinese though!

First off, Skritter has A LOT of vocabulary. However, I'm not the biggest fan of the process of learning a word—a visual would be better. But that's probably just me. If you wanna learn Mandarin Chinese (traditional characters), you won't find a better app. I've ventured through a myriad of recommendations that traditional characters with no success.

Good app in the sense that it serves its basic function well: a platform to read and write singular Chinese words. There are a couple things preventing me from giving it 5 stars. First, the context provided for word definitions is pretty poor, which means this isn't the best app to improve overall vocabulary or grammar. Second, it has several unaddressed functional bugs on the app and the website. Don't have the space for a detailed review, but happy to speak with the devs.

One of if not *the* best app platforms for building vocab with chinese! It's basically Anki with the spaced repetition and like Duolingo in that there are courses and a sense of guidance! My favorite features: - The writing function was a big selling point for me (raw squigs all the way!) - The production quality on everything (including the videos) is top notch 👌 Some cons: - There's definitely a bit of jankiness in duplicate /phrases in the master databank - WHAT'S ECCENTRIC MODE?? ???

Literally the best app on the app store. Paid version worth every cent. I went from barely knowing any characters to knowing hundreds. Looking forward to learning many more. Fast, fun, easy. Learn to write the characters using proper stroke order, hear words spoken by natives, and learn the tones. Many characters have mneuminics already too. It also has decks directly from my Chinese textbook, which makes learning the characters in my class a breeze. I cannot rate this app highly enough.

While not the best for introducing you to Chinese, it is easily the best app for scaling your vocabulary! My studying would be slow and inconvenient without it. The app has a few bugs though, the most annoying of which for me is when studying traditional characters, non-writing cards will show the simplified character.

Skritter is perfect for motor/visual-based learners like me. By making you adhere to stroke order, it prepares you well to use handwriting input on touchscreens and inherently organizes learning by radical composition. I also appreciate the filters and options for writing, reading, etc. because I have a strange objective, to learn to write and read without learning to speak or listen, so I was glad that it was flexible enough to accommodate me.

i use it to study traditional chinese. its been updated in recent years so it functions more smoothly, although some things are still inaccesible via the app, like adding new decks. but the desktop interface works pretty well. it hugely helps my word recognition, use, and my handwriting (IRL) is also improving because of it. thanks!
